July 14, 2019 – This week Nintendo revealed the Nintendo Switch Lite, a smaller version of the original Nintendo Switch which saw first light in March 2017. With this they also announced the price, colors, release date and specifications. Here is a summary.
Nintendo Switch Lite has integrated controls and is smaller than the flagship version of Nintendo Switch. It has no kickstand and, as a dedicated handheld gaming device, does not support video output to a TV. Therefore, it does not come with a dock or HDMI cable.
Nintendo Switch Lite is a device designed specifically to play Nintendo Switch games in handheld mode. This means only games that support handheld mode are playable on the Lite version. For games that support tabletop mode, players can wirelessly connect Joy-Con controllers (sold separately) to Nintendo Switch Lite. In these cases, users will need to have a device to recharge Joy-Con controllers, such as the Joy-Con Charging Grip.
The Nintendo Switch Lite launches September 20, 2019.
It has a suggested retail price of $199,99. The original Nintendo Switch is set at $299,99.
It’s unknown what the suggested retail price in euro is. At Gamemania (a Dutch retailer) you can pre-order the Switch Lite for €229,00. The original Nintendo Switch at this store is set at €329,00.
It will be available in three different colors: yellow, gray and turquoise.
A special Pokémon-themed version will be available in North America starting November 8, 2019. The Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian and Zamazenta Edition features stylish cyan and magenta buttons and illustrations of the two new Legendary Pokémon from the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield games for Nintendo Switch.
